Volume 13
Textiles in situ
Their Find Spots in Egypt and Neighbouring Countries
in the First Millennium CE

The discovery and documentation of textiles in situ, that is to say embedded in the archaeological context, reveal a lot of information. This often simplifies dating and finding out the textiles’ former function and contributes to the understanding of a site and a society. The publication deals with the correlation between textiles and find spots. Different kinds of archaeological contexts are analysed including funerary, domestic and work-place contexts. Some contributions present attempts to re-evaluate and reconstruct materials and contexts of textiles discovered long ago. This book contains the papers of a colloquium organised by the Abegg-Stiftung in 2001.
